William J. Royal Jr. is an experienced trial lawyer specializing in complex litigation. Bill has been hailed yearly as one of the “Massachusetts Super Lawyers” by Boston Magazine since 2005. Bill has a strong reputation among clients and the legal community for a careful and empathetic approach outside the courtroom and for exceptional results in court victories and settlements.
Bill is an acknowledged expert in trust and estate litigation, business and breach of fiduciary duty matters among senior managers and shareholders. Clients may not realize their rights, whether it be in the context of family disputes over trusts or wills; wrongful termination, employment separation agreements, disputes among business partners and shareholders.
Bill is a qualified expert witness regarding tort and legal malpractice issues.
He is also a certified mediator who fully understands the opportunities for Alternate Dispute Resolutions (ADR) where appropriate. However, Bill recognizes that greater rewards are often only possible through the court system.

After earning a B.A. from Brown University and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, Bill began his legal career on Wall Street in the New York bar (Sage, Gray, Todd & Sims) then returned to practice in Boston (Gadsby & Hannah)(Grumbach & Royal, LLC, a partnership with James Grumbach, Esq.), before forming Royal Law Firm.
Bill was elected to the Planning Board in Marblehead, MA and served from 1996 to 1998.
